Blog #1 A blog about blogging / by Preston Swigart

My first blog entry: a blog post about what else? Blogging...

AKA the Jerry Seinfeld approach to blogging.

I am pleased to present something I've been contemplating for a good long time--the posting of my first blog entry. I plan to be blogging periodically from now on from this site you’ve all of a sudden found yourself mired in, my newly created blog website lifeinthetalllane.com. This coincides with something else I've been thinking a lot about lately, the reworking and transition of my media production business from my original 1996 classic model PSvideo LLC to a more modern new moniker of Northend Media LTD. From a business service perspective I will still provide everything I have in the past, with the addition of some new areas and technology that should allow me to more completely serve my client’s needs. I will be offering even more production options and have added equipment that allows immediate transmission of information from point A to point B if necessary.  The LiveU, as its called, is the equivalent of Star Trek's transporter for video information.  Fire it up, hit the button and your stuff is at the other end instantly.  Beam me up Scotty!   In addition, I have added some sophisticated new camera and support equipment that allows for quality specialty-type shots done with ease.

Meet my third daughter, Alyssa Grace.

Meet my third daughter, Alyssa Grace.

Going forward I want to be more fluid and open to modern media opportunities, many of which didn't even exist when I started my freelance career back in the dark ages, or for that matter even just a few years ago, and of course this includes the idea of a blog. To that end I have enlisted the help of daughter#3 of 3 Alyssa Swigart, a newly minted Univ. of MI grad now successfully working in Chicago. In her minimal spare time, she will serve as my editor, social media manager, sounding board and who know what else at this point. Her input has been invaluable in helping me launch this project. Alyssa tells me she thinks I have a somewhat unique perspective as a middle-aged "dadblogger" of three daughters (her words). This surprises me, and I don't in any way know it to be the case, but I do know that every so often I do feel like I have something I want to say, and when I put the (now figurative) pen to paper it gives me a good deal of pleasure. Fortunately at least now, early in the process I can say I derive the same pleasure from putting ‘finger to keyboard’ as I do from some of the more traditional methods of writing, but it just doesn’t roll off the tongue or finger as smoothly as ‘pen to paper’ does. I truly hope these inspirations (if you want to call them that) will continue no matter how it gets notated.

Along with the concept of dadblogger, I will add that I plan and have already written on occasion from the lofty perspective of something most all of you know about me, that of being somewhat somewhat tall. It is this situation you will find I write about in my first ‘real’ blog entry that is not about blogging itself, which I will post in a matter of days. As of now I plan to post weekly.  As I move through this new experience and hopefully find my rhythm, I'd like to branch out to...who knows what? I write strictly for the fun of it at this point anyway, and I feel the sky is the limit. If you choose to come back more than once, I think you will see some common themes and methods as these written pieces find their way out of me and into cyberspace. I write in a rambling conversational style, with a lot of back and forth between what's going on inside and what actually gets done or said. If nothing else, verbose and I apologize in advance for that. Each and every blog entry I’ve written so far has become much longer than I originally envisioned. I just write on a subject until there’s nothing more left in me to write. Word economy is unfortunately not a subject I embrace too well. I hope that will not deter you from reading, just know that you might have to devote a little more time to it than expected.  I promise that if it gets too long I will divide it up into parts!

Thanks much for reading. If you find you can force your way through one or more of these if nothing else wordy blogs, please come back often. If you like what you read, I’d love to hear about it, and if you take a notion, follow, share, comment,  wetweet, chatsnap...whatever—well, I guess I’d better talk to Alyssa about all that...Until next time, Cheers!

Please stay tuned for my next post entitled, “On the experience of being a tall person” coming soon to a website near you.
